China completed work at its newest Kunming Changshui International Airport, envisioned as an aviation hub for southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Perhaps a good opportunity for Tarom to resume its China flights to this new gateway airport and take advantage of any "early bird rates and promotional freebies"

Good news. They have built a pretty nice airport. I doubt Tarom will restart flights to China, at least not with their current airplanes.

Well ... the A310 would probably make-it, it seems that the flight-time between Bucharest and Kunming is around 8:50 hours, just as much as the old Beijing run. Question is ... can this route be operated profitably? Based on Tarom's long-haul profit stats I doubt it too. Another alternative to reopen China, in my opinion, could be Urumqi which I think it's pretty much in the range of a B 737-700. Maybe they could work out a codeshare beyond Urumqi with fellow China Southern SkyTeam member?
