FARNBOROUGH, UK: Boeing announced on Sunday that it would be expanding the capacity of its 737 MAX 8 to 200 seats, up from the previous 189. The change would leapfrog its nearest competitor, the Airbus A320neo, by eleven seats and open up a fresh capacity gap between the two.
The addition will be accomplished, says Boeing, by adding an additional set of exit doors in the rear third of the aircraft. Furthermore, seat pitch will be reduced to 29 inches per seat. The company says the change will increase fuel efficiency per seat-mile by twenty percent over today’s 737 Next Generation 800. Boeing declined to provide further comment.

Boeing Starts Assembly of First 737 MAX

Boeing (NYSE: BA) employees in Renton, Wash., have started building the first 737 MAX on schedule. Last week, employees started to assemble the wings for the first 737 MAX flight test airplane. Wings are the first 737 components to be assembled in the Renton production process.

“Employees in Renton are the best in the world at building single-aisle airplanes and now this world-class team is building the future with the first 737 MAX,” said Keith Leverkuhn, vice president and general manager, 737 MAX. “Achieving this milestone on schedule is a testament to the success of the 737 and our integrated design and build team.”
...
The wings will be attached to the first 737 MAX fuselage on the new Central line in Renton Final Assembly later this year. The new production line will allow the team to isolate the first 737 MAX build from the rest of production in order to learn and perfect the build process while the Renton factory continues to build at a rate of 42 airplanes a month.

The 737 MAX incorporates the latest technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines, Advanced Technology winglets and other improvements to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market. Beginning in 2017, the new single-aisle airplane will deliver 20 percent lower fuel use than the first Next-Generation 737s and the lowest operating costs in its class – 8 percent per seat less than its nearest competitor. To date, the 737 MAX has 2,720 orders from 57 customers worldwide.
Update (sept. 2015)
Mechanics recently attached the wings to the body of the first 737 MAX flight test airplane. The wings feature new Advanced Technology winglets which will give customers up to 1.8 percent additional fuel-efficiency improvement over today's inline winglet designs.

... impenetrabile sint misterele Moscovei ...

LCC-ul Vietjet a semnat saptamina trecuta pentru 100*737MAX200 ... in prezenta presedintilor US & Vietnamez. Livrari intre '19-'23.
Este un punct psihologic bine marcat - caci cele 35 de aeronave pe care le are Vietjet in prezent sint A320 & 321... plus 140 in comanda...
Pina acum, Vietjet au avut o crestere faina - 20% pe an, in ultimii 3 ani. Dar e chestionabil daca aceasta crestere va putea suporta sustenabil o asemenea flota.
Piata sud-estului asiatic a fost foarte dinamica, si cele 23 LCC-uri au toate comenzi considerabile in carti - 1'100 aparate, and more to come... Flota totala a LCC-urilor a crescut la peste 600 aparate, 30% dintre ele fiind adaugate in ultimii 3 ani.

As Boeing closes in on completion of final assembly of the first 737-9, the longest variant of the MAX family it originally announced in 2011, the company has defined the size of the proposed additional -10X stretch variant to compete more aggressively against the Airbus A321neo. Boeing, which first revealed design studies of an extra stretched variant of the MAX in mid-2016, has finalized a design based on a 66-in. fuselage stretch.

Probabil, in timp, va lua locul lui MAX 9, la vanzari (se spune ca va avea o configuratie standard in doua clase la 189 scaune).

737MAX9 + 1.68m = 737MAX10:

Deocamdata MAX10 e doar o folie powerpoint.
