"Tatarstan Air (U9, Kazan Int'l) and other local operators have come under intense scrutiny from the Russian government following the recent crash of its 23-year old B737-500, VQ-BBN (msn 24785), at Kazan Int'l which claimed the lives of all 50 people on board. Russia's Izvetsia says Russian lawmakers have now proposed a bill in which all civilian aircraft older than twenty years of age would be banned from operating commercial flights. "One of the main problems of civil aviation in Russia is the exceptionally high age of the aircraft," an explanatory note to the bill said. Should the bill pass, the law would only enter into effect in 2017 in order to give airlines time to renew their fleets." ch aviation
