Singapore Airlines (SIA) Cargo president Tan Kai Ping said that "depressed demand ... across all markets gives us little reason to be optimistic about the near-term outlook," driving SIA Cargo to cut freighter capacity by 20%.

SIA said it is not grounding any of its 13 Boeing 747-400Fs but is operating each aircraft fewer hours. The cuts are "mainly for long-haul services," according to an SIA Cargo statement. "The capacity reductions were implemented recently and will continue into the northern summer operating season, which starts [late March]."

Tan said, "With no improvement expected in the first half of this calendar year, and with stubbornly high fuel prices pushing up costs, we have taken appropriate action to reduce our freighter operations to better match capacity to demand."

International air cargo traffic is estimated to have decreased by about 1% year-over-year in 2011 compared to 2010.

Noutatea cea mai importanta ar fi ca au renuntat la operarea B747 de pax,in favoarea B777 si A380.

Dupa decenii de utilizare in flota,anul acesta a fost retras si ultimul Jumbo.

Flota de B747 a fost partial convertita la cargo,alta parte vanduta recent catre TSO,WOA,SOO etc.

Apropos de ce-a zis CEO de la divizia cargo SIA,multi op cargo au probleme,s-au retras multe trupe din zone vaste de conflict,au scazut drastic contractele de transport.Personal nu vad o mare problema in treaba asta,pana se va face un nou 9/11,it's just a matter of time,be patient ;)
 
Are cineva experienta cu ei?
Sunt pe cale sa cumpar un bilet pe ruta DUS-SIN-CHC.
Pe segmentul DUS-SIN se ofera premium economy, care ma lasa sa am bagaj de cala de 35 de Kg.

Intrebare: pot lua pe tot zborul valiza de 35kg? sau la SIN va trebui sa scap de cateva haine din valiza?
Ne fiind zbor cu catre/dinspre US (Piece concept), pot avea doua bagaje de cala, de exemplu 20kg+15kg=35kg?
 
Am zburat cu SilkAir acum 2 ani si am fost in stare de soc referitor la servicii. Sunt mult peste orice companie europeana.

For the record:
am vorbit la telefon cu cei de la SIA si mi-au confirmat faptul ca daca sunt pe un bilet (mixed fare), adica DUS-SIN (premium economy), iar SIN-CHC (economy) conditiile de bagaj raman cele de premium economy, adica 35kg total bagaj de cala - in cate valize vreau eu.

Am zburat cu SQ, HKG-SIN-CHC... Intr-adevar in Y mi s-au parut foarte buni, conform cu reputatia pe care o are compania.

SIN, ca aeroport, are din pacate security at gate, ceea ce mie personal nu-mi place. Nu am avut timp sa explorez aeroportul in detaliu, probabil ca merita cateva ore, din ce am auzit.

South Island din NZ e superba.

Eu voi avea cam 13 ore intre zboruri. Sa vedem ce decide nevasta, luam somn sau dam tarcoale prin aeroport.

Varful sudic, al insulei este destinatia finala.
 
Sub 50% LF Premium Economy pe zborul SQ22 Singapore - Newark din seara asta. Un bilet dus-intors costa sub 1500 de dolari in orarul de iarna.
Comparativ, Qantas anunta peste 90% load factor pentru zborul PER - LHR in Business Class si Premium Eco, 787-9 Dreamliner.
Pretul unui bilet non-stop Singapore - Newark este mai mic decat al unuia SIN - FRA - JFK.
