A 2008 marketing agreement signed between Timisoara Traian Vuia International Airport and low cost operator Wizz Air has been ruled-out on appeal as illegal state-aid. A court in Arges County delivered a second and final verdict related to this matter. It seems that Wizz Air unlawfully benefitted of some 2.6 M Euros, plus airport-fees reductions of up to 85 % since 2008.
Back in 2011 Timis County Court reached a similar conclusion ruling the above contract as a preferential treatment to Wizz Air, but highly detrimental and unfair to other airlines operating at Timisoara Airport – Carpatair, Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa. Timisoara Airport is one of Romania’s state owned airports along with three others in Bucharest and Constanta.
