In acest weekend (24-25 martie), Qantas a scris o noua pagina in istoria aviatiei comerciale prin operarea primului zbor non-stop intre Australia (Perth) si Europa (Londra). Zborul QF9 (14.498 km) va fi operat zilnic cu 787-9 Dreamliner.
La bordul Dreamliner-ului VH-ZND s-au aflat peste 200 de pasageri si 16 membri ai echipajului, dar si CEO-ul Qantas, Alan Joyce, plus alti oficiali ai companiei. Pilotii care au realizat aceasta performanta: comandantul Lisa Norman, comandantul Jeff Foote, First Officer-ul Dave Summergreene si Second Officer-ul Troy Lane. Avionul a decolat din Perth pe 24.03 la ora locala 19:00 si, dupa un zbor non-stop de 17 ore si doua minute care a trecut si peste Romania, a aterizat la Heathrow in dimineata zilei de 25.03 la 5 AM ora locala. Operat zilnic cu 787-9 Dreamliner, zborul QF9 incepe in Melbourne si face escala la Perth, de unde continua non-stop pana la Londra. Zborul retur QF10 decoleaza din capitala Marii Britanii la 13:15 ora locala.
“Prima ruta Kangoroo intre Australia si Londra era operata, in anul 1947, cu 7 escale, iar zborul dura peste 4 zile. Acum putem ajunge intre cele doua orase dintr-un singur salt”, a declarat CEO-ul Qantas. Astfel, pasagerii Qantas au acum la dispozitie 3 zboruri intre Australia si Londra: Perth – Londra direct cu 787-9 Dreamliner, Sydney-Singapore-Londra cu A380 si din Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide si Perth via Dubai cu partenerul Emirates folosind Airbus A380 si Boeing 777.
Cateva cifre interesante
1. Zborul QF9 este operat de 4 piloti, unul sau doi odihnindu-se in timp ce colegii lor se afla in cockpit
2. QF9 va urma trasee diferite, in functie de directia vantului, care vor ajuta avionul sa zboare mai rapid si mai eficient.
3. Lung de 14.498 km, zborul QF9 Perth-Londra este al treilea cel mai lung zbor comercial din lume si al doilea cel mai lung operat cu Dreamliner
4. Boeing-ul 787-9 Dreamliner va avea la bord 92 de tone (sau 110.000 litri de carburant)
5. Pentru a putea parcuge ruta non-stop, Qantas a configurat Dreamliner-ul cu doar 236 de locuri, mai putin decat alti operatori ce ofera pe 787-9 peste 300 de locuri.
6. Peste 21.000 de elemente individuale sunt incarcate in avion pe ruta Perth-Londra, inclusiv 330 de pliculete de ceai si sute de biscuiti din ciocolata.
7. In 1947, un zbor dus-intors intre Sydney si Londra costa 525 de lire sterline, salariul mediu fiind de 7 lire sterline. Astazi, salariul mediul in Australia este de 1600 de dolari, iar un bilet dus-intors intre Perth si Londra costa sub 1300 de dolari.

QF9 Inaugural Perth to London Flight
